Ulcinj is the southernmost city and the center of the municipality of the same name on the Montenegrin Adriatic coast. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of just over 10,000 residents. Ulcinj is renowned for its tourism, particularly for its famous Velika Plaža (Long Beach), a sandy paradise that stretches 13 kilometers from the city to the Bojana River at the southernmost tip of the country.

Legend has it that the famous Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes was once imprisoned in Ulcinj. It is said that his legendary work, Don Quixote, was inspired by his captivity on this part of the Adriatic coast. According to the tale, Cervantes arrived here in 1575 when three galleys attacked a Spanish frigate in the Mediterranean Sea. Some even claim that his beloved Dulcinea from the book was actually a woman from Ulcinj.
